DETAILS
On behalf of the UBC Faculty of Science Dean's Office, we are excited to announce a free, in-person all-day AI-focused workshop for Science faculty and postdocs on June 24th from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. The workshop, “Is Machine Learning Suitable for Your Projects” will be delivered by Dr. Varada Kolhatkar and Dr. Prajeet Bajpai from the Department of Computer Science. The workshop will be held on the Point Grey Campus in Orchard Commons 4074, and is designed for participants with some programming background. We plan to touch on at least four out of the following topics:
Machine Learning (ML) fundamentals
Commonly used supervised ML models
Introduction to deep learning and pre-trained models
Introduction to unsupervised learning
Introduction to large language models
ML problem framing
This is an incredible opportunity for those of you who are interested in gaining a better understanding of machine learning and its potential applicability to your work. Lunch will be included.
If you wish to register, please fill out the pre-workshop survey so that we can better understand what you’re interested in learning. There will be hands-on activities after each module to give you an opportunity to practice what you’ve learned. Please bring your laptop to participate in these exercises. We are limited to 50 spaces, so please register by sending an email to outreach@science.ubc.ca with your name, title, and Science Department or Unit, as soon as possible in order to secure your seat.
Both registration via email and completion of a pre-workshop survey are required to attend. Once we receive your email registration and survey response, we will confirm your registration.
