CAIDA member Dr. Leonid Sigal has been awarded the BC Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship award.  This award is in recognition of exceptional research that has the potential to make a large impact on the respective field.

This award is focused on early-career researchers at UBC and provides the ability to offset their teaching load and focus more on their research.  As any faculty member knows, the balance between teaching and finding time for research can be a difficult one, so this award can truly benefit the trajectory of a researcher’s work.  Coming off the slowed research period faced by many due to COVID-19, the timing of this award is particularly impactful.

Dr. Leonid Sigal’s work is in visual imagery analysis and synthesis; fields that have seen exceptional growth in recent years and have the potential to have large societal impact.  Receiving the BC Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship award is a huge honour, and Dr. Sigal largely credits the passion and hard work of his students as an integral part of this recognition.
