The CIFAR Pan-Canadian AI Strategy recently appointed five new Canada CIFAR AI Chairs, two of which are UBC faculty: CAIDA member Danica Sutherland and Mijung Park. The Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program is designed to help support the advancement of AI research, and being appointed a chair is recognition of being one of Canada’s top AI researchers. Each CIFAR AI Chair must be associated with one of Canada's three recognized AI Institutes: Amii in Edmonton, Mila in Montreal, and Vector Institute in Toronto; as such, both of UBC’s newly appointed chairs are affiliated with the Alberta Machine Learning Institute (Amii).
CAIDA offers a big congratulations to all of the new CIFAR chairs: Neil Burch, University of Alberta, DeepMind, Amii; Jacob Jaremko, University of Alberta, Medo.ai, Amii; Marlos Machado, University of Alberta, DeepMind, Amii; Mijung Park, University of British Columbia, Amii; and Danica Sutherland, University of British Columbia, Amii.
